Young people and adults living at Grimsby Cleethorpes and Humber Region YMCA and other vulnerable people living in North East Lincolnshire are set to benefit from a series of bespoke Life Coaching, Peer Mentoring and Anger Management Classes from a recently announced Lottery grant.

The classes, delivered by Academy for Community Training (ACT), a specialist organisation based in North Lincolnshire, will commence in September 2010. ACT’s aim is to inspire adults and young people to lead more successful lives, through training, coaching and mentoring to increase their life skills and equip them to overcome the social and personal barriers they face.

Sally Smith, Development and Projects Manager for the YMCA said:

“We are delighted to receive this grant from Big Lottery Fund to deliver these much needed classes. The people with whom we work come from the most vulnerable in our society and we hope that the training will have a marked impact on their confidence, motivation and self esteem. Peer mentoring is an excellent way to bring about change and equip individuals with the skills necessary to facilitate emotional growth.”

Some sections of the training will address healthier lifestyles and link in to the activities that the YMCA is already delivering such as football, healthy eating, home safety and encourage the learners to make small positive changes to their lifestyles.

“This type of interaction has the potential to change people’s lives and adds a further piece to the jigsaw towards independent living” Peter Key, Deputy Housing Manager.

Wayne Fieldhouse, a Client living at Grimsby Cleethorpes and Humber Region YMCA said “I think this is an excellent idea. A lot of the Clients have traumatic backgrounds and this training will help them understand how they can make positive changes to their lives.”

The Big Lottery Fund distributes half of the National Lottery good cause funding across the U.K. The fund aims to enable others to make real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.

Spare places on the classes will be available to other organisations with a similar client group. Interested parties should contact Sally Smith on 01472 359621

Grimsby Cleethorpes and Humber Region YMCA is encouraging their supporters to bag themselves a bargain through the organization’s eBay store.

eBay is the world’s most popular auction website and GCHRYMCA have made available some quality products over the last few months, with even more bargains on the horizon.

So far, buyers have eagerly snapped up computer peripherals, stationery, books and much, much more—often at knockdown prices that put the High Street to shame.

The site has enabled GCHRYMCA to recoup funds on old equipment, with the added bonus that any net funds generated go directly to GCHRYMCA and into making our organisation an even better place for our clients.

We are also looking for any donations of old books, CDs and DVDs etc. that we can then make available on eBay. If you have anything you would like to donate then please contact Sophie Bentley on (01472) 359621 or email her on sophie.bentley@gcymca.org.uk

If you fancy bagging yourself a bargain then please check out our eBay site
