Smashing Time!
Cient George Kapatsoulias hosted a Greek night for his fellow clients at the Peaks Lane hostel in late-January.
George, who comes from a Greek background, used the Training Kitchen at Peaks Lane to prepare a host of dishes that were enjoyed by clients in a special Greek-themed night.
The event was a tremendous success and was met with positive feedback from staff and clients alike.
George is hoping to host another of the events again in the near-future and GHRYMCA are confident that even more clients will come along and sample some of the tasty food that George has prepared.
Flippin’ Great Day
Clients from Grimsby Cleethorpes and Humber Region YMCA were involved in a pancake race and pancake flipping contest at Peaks Lane Fire Station on Shrove Tuesday.
The event was part of larger celebrations of Pancake Day, which took part all across the North East Lincolnshire region.
The Peaks Lane race was a hotly-contested one, client Peter Holroyd eventually coming out on top.
Competitors raced the length of the station’s training yard and back, cheered on by some of the crew members from Red Watch.
When they had finished the race, entrants were immediately entered into a timed pancake-flipping contest to see who could do the most flips in a minute.

Guy Fawkes Games
The ‘Guy Fawkes Games’, organised by Humberside Fire and Rescue’s Community Safety Team based in NE Lincolnshire, were held in Grimsby and involved volunteers and both on and off-duty fire service personnel. The games were generously funded by NE Lincs ‘Safer and Stronger Communities’ and the ‘Youth Service’.
The activities were designed to attract young people who may not wish to participate in the more traditional sports. They included penguin bowling, a banana assault course, crossbow shooting, remote control car skills course, a shooting gallery, jelly ball throwing and model making. The games encouraged team participation and confidence building between nine teams of young people aged between 11 and 18 from various areas of NE Lincolnshire.
The period around Halloween and Bonfire Night is a time where anti-social behaviour increases and it is hoped that by providing constructive and enjoyable events such as the ‘Guy Fawkes Games’ it will help the community as a whole.
The winners of the Timed team games were –
Boully Crew, Immingham Youth, Bullbarians, YMCA.
The overall winners were –
1st – Bullbarians
2nd – YMCA
3rd – Cherry Garth
