We’re a really tight team at the YMCA and, throughout the organisation, we are always supporting each other and helping each other out.
Sophie Bentley, Customer Service Officer

Sophie Bentley was named the winner of the 2011 Roland Archer Trophy award for best employee at Grimsby Cleethorpes and Humber Region YMCA’s AGM on Monday 14th May.

Colleagues voted for Sophie, a Customer Services Officer at our Peaks Lane hostel, to win the award from a list of nominees, all of whom had been selected after being selected for the bi-monthly employee awards in the past 12 months.

Presenting the award, Chief Executive Paul Cornell said: “Sophie’s hard work and dedication in the Customer Service role is a credit to both herself and GCHRYMCA.

“All those who were nominated were fully deserving of the praise they received from their colleagues and it was pleasing to see the vast majority of staff casting their vote.

“Sophie is an important member of her team, which is just one of the many teams that go into making GCHRYMCA a success.”

The award was a huge surprise for Sophie, who has been with the organisation since January 2010, and she returned from annual leave especially for the presentation:

“I received a phone call last Friday to ask if I could come in for the AGM,” she said, “and that all those who had been nominated for the award were attending, so I didn’t have a clue that I had won.

“It was a real surprise because I knew that all the other nominees would be in attendance.

“We’re a really tight team at the YMCA and, throughout the organisation, we are always supporting each other and helping each other out.”
