YMCA England and the County Sports Partnership have secured £2-million from the Home Office to ensure that there is a legacy left in our local communities, following this summer’s games in London.
Deputy Chief Executive Malcolm Smith said:
“This is a great opportunity for our YMCA to be ambassadors for the Olympic Games in the Humber Region and we will need the support of the entire region for this to be a success.”
The Humber Region Community Games will be run by GCHRYMCA, in conjunction with the Humber Sports Partnership, and this will see at least 30 games run across the Humber Region, utilising 400 volunteers and attracting 20,000 people to take part, raising £25,000 in the process, which will allow the games to continue past 2013.
The Community Games programme itself is a joint venture between the County Sports Partnership and YMCA England.
With £2-million funding from the Social Action Fund, the programme aims to transform the West Midlands Community Games initiative, that has been developed by the Legacy Trust UK, into a nationwide programme, accessible throughout England.
