Service Users

Grimsby & Cleethorpes YMCA is proud of the continued involvement of its Service Users in a range of activities and events. This section will feature some of the fantastic achievements of our Service Users.

Actions Speak Louder Awards

As part of Service User participation a Music Project was set up to engage Service Users into music, helping them to express themselves and form friendships with other people with similar interests.

The project was funded by Youth Bank Training and won the ‘Stay Safe’ Award at the North East Lincolnshire Council’s ‘Actions Speak Louder’ Awards held at Blundell Park in late-2007.

The project is still going strong and recently put on a fundraising night at the Matrix in Grimsby.

Homeless World Cup - Copenhagen

Steve Goodwin, a Service User from the Foyer, participated in the 2007 Homeless World Cup, representing England in the finals in Copenhagen.

Steve was selected as a goalkeeper after impressing in trials at Manchester United’s Cliff Training facility and he traveled to Denmark to represent the Three Lions in the finals.

Although England did not win the tournament, it was still a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a Service User connected with Grimsby & Cleethorpes YMCA.

Steve met Manchester United legends Lee Sharpe and Eric Cantona during his time with the England side, as well as coming face-to-face with current United and England star Ben Foster.

Steve, who moved to the Foyer in 2006, has always been an avid footballer and saw his hopes of playing at a higher level fulfilled - he now plays regularly for a local side.
